MINI-SESSION COURSE ON THE OLYMPICS IN GREECE

May 17-May 30 , 2004

INCLUDES:

  • Optional 3-Unit Mini-Session Course-History 475: Social and Economic Aspects of Olympic Games History:  From Ancient and Modern Times, taught by Professor Nicholas Pappas of Sam Houston State University and Dr. Gregory Papanikos of the Athens Institute for Education and Research.
  • Daily Tours of major historical, cultural and tourist sites in the Athens area, including the Acropolis, the Agora, the National Archaeological Museum, the Zappeion, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Pan-Athenian Stadium, Sounion, and the 2004 Olympic facilities in and around Athens. 
  • An optional one-day cruise with lunch to 3 islands: Aigina, Hydra and Spetses at an extra cost of 80 euro.
  • A Five-Day Field Trip, including tours of the following historical cultural and tourist sites: Olympia, Corinth (Nemea, Isthmia), Epidauros, Tripoli, Naupaktos and Delfi.
  • Opportunities to experience the entertainment and social life of Athens, including an optional Greek Night in a traditional Greek Tavern in Plaka.

COSTS:

  • Room/Board at the 3-4 Star Hotel in the Athens Area.  Double Occupancy. 
  • Lectures by the staff of the Sam Houston State University, the Athens Institute for Education and Research, and agencies of the Greek Government and the Athens Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games of 2004.
  • Transportation and Tours in and around Athens.
  • Four-day archaeological tour that includes visits to Olympia, Corinth (Nemea, Isthmia), Epidauros, Tripoli, Naupaktos and Delfi.
  • Total cost for accommodations, meals, facilities, arrangements, and ground transportation in Greece:  1,000 euro.
  • Single rooms are available for an additional 250 euro.
  • Optional Island cruise and Greek Night: 110 Euro
  • Air fare from Houston to Athens and return: about $700
  • SHSU tuition and fees for the mini-session course in Greece: $580
  • For those affiliated with Sam Houston State University and not taking the course, there will be a Continuing Education Fee:  $345
  • For unaffiliated participants, there will be a fee from the Athens Institute of Education and Research:  300 euro
